William Harvey, resident of Prescott, AZ, formerly of Waco, TX died on November 5, 2011. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 10 A.M. at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel and entombment to follow. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011 at Connally-Compton Funeral Directors.
William was born on April 8, 1914 in Sag Harbor, New York. After graduating from the University of Texas, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and later became a Commander with the 429th JASCO (Joint Assault Signal Corp) and participated in several major amphibious landings, including D-Day, as well as in North Africa, the Philippines, and New Guinea. He was awarded numerous medals and citations for his service, included 2 Purple Hearts and 2 Bronze stars with Combat V. He was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Post WWII, he married Nancy and worked as a psychologist for the Veteran Administration, later becoming an agent in the automotive aftermarket.
William was an Endowed member of the Herring Lodge in Waco, and Past Master of the Riesel Lodge #825. He was a member of the York Rite, where he was Past Commander of Waco Commandery No. 10, Past Thrice Illustrious Master, Waco Council, Past Most High Priest, Waco Chapter, Viceroy, the Red Cross of Constantine and Knight of the York Cross of Honor. He was a member of the Legion of Honor of the DeMolay and Knight of the Royal Order of Scotland. He was past President of the Waco Chapter of the National Sojourners, and Past Commander of the Waco Heroes of 76. William was a member of the Sam Houston Hall of Fame and co-Chairman of Masonic Relations, Karem Temple. He was a member of the Scottish Rite where he was Past Venerable Master, Lodge of Perfection, the 33rd Degree Inspector General Honorary, Sovereign Grand Commander: Kt. Com. Investiture and Reunion Director for the Scottish Rite.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, to whom he was married for 71 years, and a grandson, Carl August Anderson, IV.
He is survived by a son, Michael Harvey and wife, Cris; daughters, Elizabeth Anderson and Stephanie Zimmermann and husband, Harvey; grandchildren, Andrew Anderson and wife, Rebecca; Sarah Newman and husband, Stanton; John Zimmermann and great grandchildren, Brianna and Wesley Anderson.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children or to Karem Temple or your local Masonic Lodge for their benevolences.
