He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Leslie Childress Marr of Humble, TX; step-son Scott Childress & wife Frances of Leander, TX; step-daughter Lisa Johnson & husband Chad of Spring, TX; grandchildren, Sophia & Fiora Childress, Parker & Hayden Johnson; sister Carol Marr of Hewitt, TX; nephew Sean Wellensiek of Hewitt, TX; sister, Linda Marr McGuire & husband Sam of Hewitt, TX; niece Suzy Karash and husband, Elliot of Kingwood, TX; great nephews Jamison, Ian & wife Sierra, Noah, & Solomon Karash. He was preceded in death by his parents. The oldest of three children, Steve grew up in & attended school in Waco.
As a young boy, Steve loved baseball. He was a Little League pitcher under legendary Waco Coach Butch Henry. Steve also enjoyed spending time at places like Cameron Park, Mother Neff State Park and Toledo Bend. With his friendly, outgoing personality, Steve made friends easily. Steve worked in the construction industry before becoming a welder. He made his start as a welder in downtown Waco before moving to Houston. In 1980 he met the love of his life, Leslie Childress and they married in 1981. Steve was a skilled carpenter, welder and pipe fitter. Gifted with artistic talent, Steve crafted and designed original pieces using metal and wood to create unique gifts for his family and friends. Those gifts will be long cherished by his family. Steve enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, watching sports and the outdoors. A man with a generous loving heart, Steve was known to verbally express his love for others and often spoke the simple phrase, “Let’s be happy”. Steve touched the lives of many people…as a son, brother, uncle, friend, & husband. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Cremation has taken place at his request. Steve can be most honored in the hearts and memories of those who loved him.
