Narciso Tamez Gomez (77) of Eddy, TX, passed away on October 23, 2024, of heart failure. He was born on October 29, 1946, to Luz and Juanita (Tamez) Gomez in Rosebud, TX, and he graduated from Petersburg High School in 1966 in a small farming community outside of Lubbock. Narciso was always interested in drag-racing and classic cars, and at the time of his death he was restoring an old family truck. He also enjoyed taking care of the family property.
Narciso served in the US Army in Vietnam from November 1967 until November 1970. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, a Mechanic’s Badge, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and was a Marksman with M-16s and M-14s.
Narciso lived for many years in Temple, TX, and spent 33 years working for the United States Postal Service in Temple and Waco. He met his wife, Mary, at the Post Office, and they married in 1982. Narciso raised Mary’s two children as his own and enjoyed being a grandfather. After his retirement from the Post Office, he worked for several years for John McClaren (now Jim Turner) Chevrolet in McGregor, TX.
He is predeceased by his parents, brother Jesse and sister-in-law Aurelia.
Narciso is survived by his wife, Mary; his nephew, Chris Gomez; his step-children, Natalyn Ala (Mark Howkins) of Hampshire, United Kingdom and Jason Kraemer (Nanette) of Moody, TX; grandchildren, Mary Ala, Janna Ala, Spencer Kraemer and Serena Kraemer; sister-in-law Doris Wagner (Jay); their daughters, Alexei Poggenklass (Brian), Kassy Wagner, and Mercy Wagner (Nicholas Mitchell); their children; and many cousins.
To honor Narciso’s memory, a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rosebud, TX, on Friday, November 8, 2024, followed by a church service at First Baptist Church Lorena in Lorena, TX, at 2:00 p.m.
