Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2023 at Waco Memorial
Park with Reverend David Cozart officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. –
8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the funeral home.
Loretta was born on October 17, 1932 to Leonard Earl and Madie Lee (Sorrell)
Dougherty in London, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Waco and dedicated
her life to raising her family. Loretta married the love of her life, James Lee Jones
on April 14, 1951 in Waco, Texas. She enjoyed sewing, reading, crafting and she
was an excellent cook. Loretta and James had an RV and enjoyed traveling,
especially following his retirement. But family was always the most important
thing to Loretta, and raising her children was the center of her life. Her four girls
and their families were absolutely the pride of her life. Loretta’s faith meant a
great deal to her as well and her unwavering faith in God gave her the strength she
needed in her final days.
Loretta is preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Jones; her parents, Leonard
and Madie Dougherty; one brother, Leonard Earl Dougherty, Jr.; two
granddaughters, Darlene Sturdevant and Amy Schmidt; and one great-grandchild,
Kailey Sturdevant.
Survivors include her daughters, Debra Sturdevant and husband, Roger of
Bellmead; Shirlene Conner and husband, Ronnie of Temple; Beverly LeMay and
husband, Terry of Waco; and Teresa Jones of Waco. She is survived by her
grandchildren: Roger Sturdevant, Jr., Kevin Sturdevant, Jason Langford, Amber
Marquez, Jessica Porter, Heather LeMay and Traci Swilley; and 15 greatgrandchildren.
Loretta also has two surviving sisters: Gail Jenkins and husband,
Larry, of Waco, and Sherry Marlatt of Austin. She is survived by one brother,
Patrick Dougherty and wife, Terry, of Waco.
