Felipe Sanchez Jr., 96, of Waco, Texas went to be with our Lord on the evening of Sunday January 3, 2021. He will be missed by many and was loved by all. Visitation and Prayer Services, at Connally/Compton, will be celebrated on Thursday Evening, January 14, 2021 with visitation at 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a Prayer Vigil beginning at 7:00 p.m. concluding at 8:00 p.m. A Christian burial service will be Friday, January 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Mass at St. Francis, proceeding to Oakwood Cemetery for a graveside service with Father Jose Jazo officiating.
Felipe was born on September 8, 1924 to Felipe Sanchez Sr. and Refugia Salcido Sanchez in Bastrop, TX. He was known to all of his family, close friends and those who loved him as “Felipito” “Pito”, "Tio", Grandpa, and Dad.
He attended Elk Schools and helped his parents and family on the farms and ranches, during his time as a young man, growing up in Elk, Texas. Felipe lived in Waco, Texas, in McLennan County, most of his adult life, where he met and married Rebecca Nino and had five children. Felipe was involved in the community as a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, and served on the Reicher Board of Directors in the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s. He was a tremendous brother to his siblings, a wonderful family man, a good husband, a great dad, and an awesome grandpa. Felipe joined the Armed Services, to serve his country, in1945, where he began his career in the Army and was located at Fort Benning Army Base in Columbus, Georgia. He later transferred to the Air Force where he was moved to Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas, before being stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. After the Air Force Felipe returned to Texas and where he worked at American Desk Manufacturing, later moved to Hammonds Industry where he helped with contracts and trade with Mexico, and completed his career as a supervisor with the Veteran’s Administration in Waco.
Felipe is preceded in death by his parents; mother, Refugia Salcido Sanchez, father, Felipe Sanchez Sr.; sisters Luz Hurtado, Delores Lopez, Cruz Sanchez Sosa; brothers, Hilaro Sanchez, Jesus Sanchez, Mercedes Sanchez; son Armando Sanchez; and grandson, Evan Sanchez.
Survivors include his wife Rebecca Nino Sanchez of Waco; son, Phil Sanchez III and daughter-in-law, Jeanie Mulligan Sanchez; their children Philip, Mari, and Andrew of Frisco, Texas; son Tony Sanchez and daughter-in-law, Laura Stephenson Sanchez, and their son Luke of Waco; son Stephen Sanchez and his sons, Justin, Ty, and Stephen of Waco; daughter Carmen Sanchez Pollard and son–in-Law, Gary Pollard, of Whittier, California; and four great grandchildren.
