Betty (Petra) Patena

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors with Father Benji officiating. Burial to follow in Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the funeral home.

Betty was born on December 4, 1931 to Cruz and Soledad (Lopez) Garcia in Asa, Texas.

She was a longtime resident of Waco, Texas. Betty married the love of her life, Manuel V. Patena on March 1, 1949 in Waco, and he preceded her in death on September 7, 2021. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially with all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Most of all, gardening was her passion.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include son, Robert Manuel Patena and wife, Sue of Washougal, Washington, son, Luiz Patena and wife, Cynthia of Waco; daughter, Rosie Padilla and husband, John of Waco, daughter, Ermina Salazar and husband , Travis of Waco, son, Ralph Patena and wife, Paula of Waco, daughter, Maria Schoeplein and husband, Anthony of Vancouver, Washington; 17 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; brother, Cruz Garcia, Jr., and wife, Pauline of Temple; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Clemente Patena, Luiz Patena, Jr., Israel Jimenez, Raymond Shafer-Patena, Stephen Cipullo, and Jason Henderson. Honorary Pallbearers: Travis Salazar, Victoria Montoya and Adam Cipullo.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice especially to Christy Kazaoka, Shay Stinson-Collins, Nikki Smith, and Chaplain, Manuel Henriquez for the loving care that they gave to our mother.
