Born in Columbia on January 7, 1947 but raised in Miami, Florida, Sarah graduated from Florida State University and joined the Red Cross, where she served in the Republic of Korea and other parts of Asia. She returned to the United States and earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. She worked for the state of South Carolina for over 35 years. First working for the Commission for the Blind, through which she met her husband Charles, and later working and retiring from the Human Affairs Commission.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Wood; her husband, Charles Vinson Crouch; her brothers, Bobby, Carl, Earl, and Harold Wood and sister, Marcell Baxter.
Sarah is survived by her son, Philip (Jessica) Crouch; brother, James (Sheryl) Wood; her stepsons, Bryan, Charles, Mark and Michael Crouch and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 W. Dunbar Rd., West Columbia, SC 29170 on March 16 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
