Leighton R. Hiott, 81, passed peacefully at home with his dog in his lap on Monday, November 18, 2024. He was born on April 24, 1943 and was the son of the late Ashley and Marie Kinard Hiott, Sr. of Bamburg, SC.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Z. Hiott; his son, Earle Caine; two brothers, Ashley Hiott, Jr. and Carl Vernon Hiott; and two sisters, Grace Hiott Murphy and Helen Hiott Smith.
Leighton served two terms in the U.S. Army and went on to become a supervisor and master pipefitter for most of his career. He was an accomplished author and deeply religious man who knew the bible front to back. He was a lifelong democrat who loved politics and debating. A true family man who raised two girls as his own. Leighton was married to his only true love, Janice Z. Hiott for 42 years until her passing in 2015. He loved dogs, especially his beloved Rudy, who passed two days before him.
He leaves behind two daughters, Angela Koon (Reggie) of West Columbia, SC and Dana Leach (David) of Monticello, GA; grandchildren, Trey, Lauren, Morgan, Kelsey, Amber, and Crystal; four sisters, Nellie Hiott Roberson, Shirley Hiott Pate (John), Peggy Hiott Greene (Barry), and Judy Hiott Still (Tony), all of Bamburg, SC; one brother, Harry Gene Hiott (Olivia) of Walterboro, SC; along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 PM at Southland Memorial Gardens.
