Sam was born in Visalia to Fred and Anna Sciacca and attended schools in Visalia. At the age of 17, Sam enlisted in the United States Navy and shipped out to the Mariana Islands in the Pacific during WWII. Sam served in the battle of Leyte Gulf, the most decisive naval battle in the Pacific, which turned the tide of the war, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Sam was extremely proud of his military service to our country, and often talked about it to anyone that would listen, and proudly wore his Navy Veteran cap everywhere.
After Sam’s discharge from the Navy, he married the love of his life, Theresa Coppola, and together they raised four sons. Sam worked in his father’s vineyard, and later inter-planted walnut trees on the farm. Later he purchased additional walnut orchards and continued to farm for many years. Sam also began working as a public accountant and later furthered his education and became a Certified Public Accountant, working in various firms in Visalia. In 1981 Sam founded Sciacca & Company Certified Public Accountants and practiced with his son Fred for over forty years until he retired. Sam was highly respected among his friends, clients and peers alike throughout his career.
Sam leaves behind his lovely wife of 72 years, Theresa, and four sons, Fred and his wife Sharon, Steve and his wife Gale, David and his wife Jennifer, and Lenny Sciacca. Grandchildren: Michael(Amanda), Breanne (Cameron), Brittany(Martin), Sarah, Billy, Katie(Sean), Annie, Vincent, Lindsey, and Landon; along with seven great grandchildren.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Anna Sciacca, and his two sisters Rose Howard and Louise Pettit.
