She was born on May 24, 1940 in Lawrenceville, GA, to Decator and Lois Dunagan. Ruth was the oldest of four children: Ruth, Norma Dunagan Huff, Bob
Dunagan, who has proceeded her in death, and Decator Dunagan. She remained close to her sister and brothers throughout her life. She graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA, in 1962 and married Harry Wood. With him she served ministerial assignments in Flippen and Decatur, GA; Fresno, Palo Alto and, since 1978, Visalia, CA .
She is the mother of Lee Wood who lives in Taipei, Taiwan, with his wife Helen and their daughters Catherine and Hannah. She is also the mother of Robin who is married to David Sanchez-Tembleque. They make their home in Miami Beach, FL with their two daughters, Isabel and Carmen.
Ruth’s career as a stock broker began in Palo Alto and continued in San Francisco and Visalia. She was devoted to her clients and enjoyed her work. She also enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with family and friends. Her charitable and social activities included her church, Hospice, Networking For Women, Habitat For Humanity, PEO, Tulare County Symphony League, her beloved book club and the Visalia Country Club.
Ruth’s favorite verse from the Bible encouraged her for many years: “Cast your cares on him for he cares for you.”
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wesley Foundation of the
Visalia United Methodist Church.
A reception at the Visalia Country Club will follow the service at the Methodist Church.
