Pete was born in Plattsburgh, New York, and went on to lead an impressive career as the Chief Financial Officer of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, from which he retired in 2012. Following his retirement, he and his wife, Shannon, moved to Arizona, where he enjoyed golfing regularly, embracing life’s simple pleasures in a place he loved. In 2019, Pete and his wife moved back to Virginia to enjoy their new chapter in life as grandparents. Living in Virginia Beach allowed 'Gramps' to share his love of the beach with his adored grandchildren often.
Pete is survived by his beloved wife, Shannon, his daughters, Lindsey Thompson and Taylor Dismukes, his sister, Jody Rankin, his nephews, Jordan Rankin and Adam Rankin, and his grandchildren Michael Barrett Thompson, Peter Brooks Thompson, Aida Jace Dismukes, and Robert Grey Thompson. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor on Sunday, November 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For those who would like to attend, please reach out to the family for further details.
