Gail Ann Nilsen

Gail was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 3, 1946 to Ruth Handschuch Nilsen and Lawrence A. Nilsen who predeceased her. A graduate of Princess Anne High School Class of 1964, she also attended Old Dominion University.

Gail retired after 44 years from the 317 Recruiting Squadron B Flight USAF Virginia Beach, VA. She was active in Aragona Village Civic League, Citizens Advisory Committee Virginia Beach Police Department 3rd Precinct, Department 56 Collectors Group, Red Hats and Project Lifesavers. In 2008 she received the Virginia Beach Community Organization Award for her work in helping to organize Project Lifesaver in Virginia Beach. Gail was a lifelong Lutheran.

Surviving are her sister Judith Cudworth (Vaden L. “Buck”) Hertford, NC, brother Alan L. Nilsen (Kathy McKay) Boquete, Panama, niece Wendy Van Fossen (widow of Timothy) Virginia Beach, Va., their daughters Caitlin Van Fossen, Virginia Beach, Va., and Victoria Latimer (Paul), Newport News, Va and nephews Alan Cudworth, Baltimore, MD and Eric Nilsen Fayetteville, NC.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 28, 3:00 p.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach by The Rev. Stephen Bohannon of St. Michael Lutheran Church.

Gail would have appreciated memorial donations to Virginia Beach Project Lifesaver or Gatesville Rescue Squad.
