of her son. Born on December 13th, 1940 in Wilkes Barre, PA, she was the daughter of Florence
A. Bates and stepfather Clarence H. Bates Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 60 years, Manfred A. Glaubke, her two sons, Michael A. and Mark A. Glaubke; daughter-in-law, Stephanie; grandchildren, Ryan, Madison, Lauren and Cameron, and great granddaughter, Brielyn.
She was a member of the Lost Class of 1959 at Granby High School, where she married her high
school sweetheart, Freddie, and began raising a family in Norfolk. She cared and nurtured her two
boys throughout her life, making many memories and cherished friends along the way. Her two
boys graced her with four grandchildren whom she loved very dearly.
In the last 20 years of her life, she was devoted to the care of her mother, father, and husband, selflessly sacrificing much of life’s pleasures—often at the cost of her own well-being—to ensure that their final years were filled with joy and dignity. She extended that love to others outside of her immediate family,
supporting charities like the ASPCA, Shriner’s Hospital, CHKD, Wounded Warriors, and Virginia
Wesleyan University Softball. She committed herself to others, and that only ceased the day she
passed.
Found amongst her papers was a poem that she held dear after the passing of her mother. Our
family shares that poem with you now in the hopes that it gives you comfort:
“A Penny”
I found a penny today
Just lying on the ground
But it’s not just a penny
This little coin I found
Found pennies come from heaven
That’s what my grandpa told me
He said angels toss them down
Oh, how I loved that story
He said when an angle misses you
They toss a penny down
Sometimes just to cheer you up
To make a smile out of your frown
So don’t pass by that penny
When you’re feeling blue
It may be a penny from heaven
That an angel tossed to you
