Unfortunately, reports of my demise are not greatly exaggerated. Darril Gibson, age 64, died on September 8th, 2022. It was a long yearlong battle fighting sarcoma cancer; the tumor started in a kidney and grew, spreading to other organs in stealth mode without giving any clues of the mini bombs they were planting.
Darril always loved the “knowledge transfer thing” and spent more than a dozen years in front of classrooms teaching others. In fact, ever since he saw his neighbor’s eyes light up after he taught her how to tell time from a clock, he’s been in love with sharing his knowledge with others. They were both about 6 or 7, and for the younger crowd out there, this was an analog clock, not a digital one.
After a 22-year Navy career working with computers and electronics, Darril retired as a Master Chief. He then went on and filled a dream becoming a full-time author and writing books that help others. Since then, he has authored, coauthored, or contributed to more than 40 books that will live on helping others. One of his true joys in life is receiving emails from readers letting him know about their successes after using one of his books. It didn’t stop in the classroom or with his books; Darril was quick to teach anyone who came to him for assistance. He founded the Get Certified Get Ahead brand, helping tens of thousands of people get certified and get ahead in their jobs and careers.
His love of life did not limit him to writing and teaching. With his wife at his side, they set out on adventures that took them all over the world, granting them experiences that many might only wonder about. His generosity knew no bounds. If he could give, he did. His motto was: Life is meant to be fun, fulfilling, and filled with fabulous fortunes.
One of his greatest joys was gardening. He was a Master Gardener and loved to work in his garden. He was quick to help his sister, Dawn, plan what to do in her garden in California. She now has a vibrant garden that reminds her of him daily.
Darril is survived by the love of his life, Nimfa Gibson (also known as Wonder Woman), his dog Perry, Nicole Ostrowski (Darril’s partner at the Vegas craps table) and his favorite little sister, Dawn Grzena.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Sarcoma Foundation of America.
