OBITUARIO
Carroll Wayne Youngkin
27 diciembre , 1938 – 12 febrero , 2019
Carroll W. "Yunk" Youngkin, 80, passed peacefully from this life on February 12, 2019 in Virginia Beach, VA. Yunk was the beloved son of Marian and Glenn Youngkin and was born in Miami, FL, where he spent his childhood before moving to Winston-Salem, NC. It was in NC that Yunk discovered his love for basketball, playing for North Davidson High and earning all-state honors. Yunk went on to become a proud member of the Duke Blue Devils' basketball team, helping lead Duke to its first ACC Tournament Championship in 1960 and scoring 30 points against arch-rival UNC in the semi-finals. While attending Duke, Yunk met a nursing student and the love of his life, Ellis Quinn, and they married in Durham on August 27, 1960. During their 58 years of marriage, Yunk and Ellis cultivated life-long friendships while living in Durham, NC; Baltimore, MD; Richmond, VA; Virginia Beach, VA; Boca Raton, FL; and The Villages, FL. Yunk cared deeply for his family and friends, and wherever he lived became a valued part of the community. Throughout his career, Yunk pursued his interest in accounting and finance, working for great companies including McCormick & Co., ER Carpenter, and Baker Equipment, in addition to pursuing his own entrepreneurial ventures. Yunk was a kind man and, at his core, liked to have fun! He loved sports and games of all types, sharing this with his children and grandchildren. Along with basketball, Yunk also enjoyed golf, WWII history, reading, music, and connecting with people. In addition to his parents, Yunk was predeceased by his beloved wife Ellis, his sister Glenda Delp, and his brother-in-law Carroll Delp. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Dottie Kouba (Chris) and Glenn Youngkin (Suzanne); his niece Lynn Cribb (Paul); his seven grandchildren Valarie, Emily, and Julianne Kouba and Grant, Anna, John, and Thomas Youngkin; and treasured cousins and friends. All will miss Yunk and remember him with love and great fondness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1PM on March 10th at HTC (Holy Trinity Church), 850 Balls Hill Road, McLean, VA 22101, with a reception to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carroll "Yunk" Youngkin may be directed to the "Max Crowder Athletic Endowment Fund" at Duke University, and mailed to Alumni & Development Records, Box 90581, Durham, NC 27708.
