Carolyn Hamrick Strange

Carolyn H. Strange, 98, formerly of Lyman, SC, and Charlotte, NC, went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2021, passing peacefully at the home of her niece, Sandra Brown, and her husband, Jim, of Virginia Beach, VA.
Carolyn was born in Gaffney, SC, September 11, 1922, the daughter of Paul and Sarah Hamrick. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Clyde H. Strange, and her sister, Barbara H. Smith of Virginia Beach, VA.
Carolyn was a veteran of WWII, and served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps at Thayer General Hospital, Nashville, TN, in 1945.
Carolyn loved sweets with here morning coffee – lemon pound cake, honey buns, pecan swirls, and chocolate cupcakes. She enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows – Andy Griffith, In the Heat of the Night, and Blue Bloods – and listening to Big Band Music. Her and Clyde’s “song” was “Moonlight Serenade” by Glenn Miller.
Carolyn and Clyde had no children of their own but they loved, and were loved by, a host of extended family members including Sandra and Jim, their children and grandchildren, Julie Buckner of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Mary and Jack Harrison of Inman, SC.
A graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC, Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 10 am.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers of Freda H. Gordon Hospice and Palliative Care of Virginia Beach for the compassionate and attentive care they provided for Carolyn.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are being handled by Smith & Williams Funeral Home in Virginia Beach, VA, and McEwen Funeral Service in Charlotte, NC.
