Carman E. Freeburn, 94, passed away on May 23, 2023, at Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was born on July 20, 1928, to the late Virgil and Alta Freeburn in DeKalb, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lee Freeburn; son, Mark Freeburn; 5 brothers, Clarence, Donald, Louis, Eugene and Carl; along with 3 sisters, Violet, Lola and Betty.
Carman retired as Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy with over 30 year's service. Carmen is originally from Indiana and attended basic training in Williamsburg VA. Carman created his life in Virginia Beach VA with the US Navy which took him to Puerto Rico for a tour. In turn he returned to Virginia Beach (known as his home).
He was a very active leader with VA Beach Lions Club, as well as a member of the American Legion #113, Redwing and Tidewater Golf Associations. Carman had a love for life, friends and strangers. You were always guaranteed to hear a good story when Carman was around.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Chambers (Bill); 2 granddaughters Cara Crane (Jeffrey) and Heather Crosier; beloved niece Tammy Vanderpool (Gary); and very dear friend Kim Haddaway (David). Along with many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
A celebration of life with military honors for Carman will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. A private burial will occur at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462.
