Rufus Payne

Rufus A. Payne was born November 2, 1934. He entered into marriage with Joyce (Johnson) June 28, 1958. He served a brief stay in the Army. A native of Bellview, LA, he resided in Vinton, LA for 50 years. Rufus was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was employed at American Bridge in Orange, TX for 18 years. He was also employed with the town of Vinton where he retired after 17 years of service. Rufus was called to rest at 7:50 p.m. on April 25, 2011 at Calcasieu Cameron Hospital.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce (Johnson) Payne of Vinton, LA.; his children Ashton Payne, and his wife JoElaine, of Vinton, LA, Michael Payne, and his wife Gloria, of Vinton, LA and Martin Payne, and his wife Lynda, of Vinton, LA.; brothers, Wilfred Payne, and his wife Delores, of Carencro, LA, Wilven Payne, and his wife Carol, of Hilsburn, NJ, Leon Payne, and his wife Diana, of Opelousas, LA and one sister Hilda Taylor, and her husband Thomas, of Grand Coteau, LA.; 11 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and a host of Nieces and Nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Andrea (Malbrough) and Wilfred Payne Sr. Brothers Ashton Payne, Rogers Payne, Calvin Payne, Eldridge Payne, Junius Payne and Joseph Richard Payne. Sister Hazel (Payne) Charles, Ariel Payne , and Audrey Payne.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in St Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Susil Fernando will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery in Westlake under the guidance of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Visitation will be Saturday from 8:30 - 10 a.m. with a rosary at 9 a.m., all at the church.
