He has one living younger sister, Loyce Patin of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The rest of his original family are all deceased.
John attended school in Louisiana and worked for the State of Louisiana. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. After his service in the army he returned to Louisiana until 1965 when he and his family moved to California. John may have left Louisiana and the Bayous where he had loved to fish with all of his friends, but it was always home. He often mentioned the local culture, the Mardi Gras balls and parades. John also loved cajun food and knew how to make some of the popular dishes. He enjoyed traveling and he did a lot of that including trips to Canada, Hawaii, Mexico and most of the lower fourty-eight. He especially enjoyed Virginia and Washington DC. He loved visiting Quantico and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation in Virginia.
After coming to California in 1965 he continued his education while working in the aerospace industry as an engineer and facilities manager. He was a Certified Manager from the Institute of Certified Professional Managers at Harrisburg, Virginia.
John met his wife Alice while working at General Dynamics in Pomona, California. They were married August 29, 1987 at the First Baptist Church in Downey, California.
John is survived by his wife of almost thirty-six years and his children, Debra Watkins of Huntington Beach & Pomona, CA, Brian Verret of Las Vegas, NV, Gail Taylor of Pomona, CA, his step-daughter Leslie Grimm of Perry, GA, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his sons John Verret, Jr. and Michael Verret and his step-son Cary Midtbo.
