Helen “Sissy” Joan (Castleman) Thompson, of Apple Valley passed away peacefully on Oct 8th surrounded by loved ones. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thelma and John Castleman, brother John "Buster" Castleman and by her husband and love of her life, Leo Roy Thompson. She is survived by nephews John Castleman (Vicki) of Florida and Kurt Castleman of Oregon, a niece, Michelle Smith (Roddy) of Florida and a cousin, Terri Stuermer of Georgia.
She was born in Nashville, Tennessee on September 21, 1934 and moved to San Francisco when she was a little girl, and there she graduated from Washington Union High School. She attended Long Beach State College and LA State College. She was an entrepreneur, owning a sweater shop and dealt in real estate most of her adult life.
She loved dancing, especially round dancing and square dancing with her beloved Leo. She also enjoyed playing bingo at the senior center, playing the slots in Laughlin and bowling.
She was a devoted member of the Hi-Desert Center for Spiritual Living, where she enjoyed baking a cake each week for the social hour after the Sunday service.
Helen was a sweet, generous, loving soul and she will be missed.
A memorial service was held in her honor at the Hi-Desert Center for Spiritual Living on Corwin Road in Apple Valley, this Saturday, October 15 at 1 PM with Mary Franklin officiating. There will be a private burial service at Desert View Memorial Park on Tuesday, October 18th in the morning.
