He was raised by Lillie Mae and her husband John Henry Henderson. He was
Lillie Mae’s first born child and was beloved from the moment that he
arrived.
Charles grew up in Los Angeles and attended Jefferson High School. During
this time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and playing his guitar.
As he matured from an adolescent to a young adult, he met a local minister
named Rudolph Williams, Sr., who had a reputation for changing the lives of
the young men who he counseled. This was certainly a life changing
encounter for Charles, because he would soon give his life to Christ and join
Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church. He would also meet Rev. Williams’
eldest daughter Marva, who he would go on to love, marry and cherish for 53
½ years.
Besides his family and his church, Charles’ other dedication was to his
business. He was a passionate entrepreneur and he owned a garment cutting
business. He worked in this industry for more than 50 years. He was known
to his business colleagues as “Chuck”, and they all admired his knowledge and
work ethic.
Charles was preceded in death by his mother Lillie Mae, his father John
Henry, his father-in-law Rev. Dr. Rudolph V. Williams, Sr., his mother-in-law
Zettie Williams, and his great granddaughter Auriyah.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife Marva Henderson, two
sons Charles Henderson, Jr. and Steven Henderson, daughter Shantel
Henderson Johnson, son-in-law Marquis Johnson, two brothers Ronald
Henderson and John Henry Henderson, Jr., sister Catherine Ross, five
brothers-in-law James, Rudolph, Anthony, Rubin, and Maurice, six sisters-inlaw
Janice, Marie, Denise, Gabriella, Diane and Michelle, 10 grandchildren, six
great grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins,
godchildren and many friends.
Until the end, Charles fought the good fight. But he is now unshackled by the
pain and disease of this world. And while we will miss his beautiful laugh and
generous spirit, we know that our separation is temporary. We rejoice in
knowing that his soul is free. Our husband, father, brother and friend is in the
comfort of our Lord.
