God blessed the late Gilbert Guillory Sr. and Elizabeth Frank Guillory, saying unto them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth." From their union came Attie, Gladys, Hillary, Joyce, John, Beatrice, Verley, Murphy, Gilbert Jr., Mack, and Daniel. Though many of them have passed, their legacy lives on. On Thursday, October 10th, 2024, the Lord called upon Carrie, as she peacefully transitioned from labor to reward, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who loved her.
Carrie Ashley was born on March 16, 1939, in Mamou, Louisiana. She received her education in Mamou and Lake Charles, Louisiana, before embarking on a brief career as a cosmetologist. In 1959, she married the love of her life, the late Roland Ashley, and they shared many years of happiness until his passing. She is survived by her four children, Stephanie, Len, Tara, and Betty; five grandchildren, Danielle, Tamimah, Allysa, Aliyah, and Jayree; four great-grandchildren, Ahmajai, Arianna, Kason, and Ziyah; and the family dog, Bruno.
Carrie's spiritual journey began early in life at St. Paul's Baptist Church in Mamou, Louisiana. Later, she became a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Victorville, California, where she was led by Bishop Nathaniel J. Ruffin. She followed him to Spirit of Christ Tabernacle M.B.C., where she served for over 40 years as a Deaconess, Mother, and dedicated choir member. A true prayer warrior, Carrie loved singing in the choir, with "Amazing Grace" being her favorite hymn. Her days were filled with gospel music by Mahalia Jackson, church activities, and the simple joys of life, like watching her favorite shows—Gunsmoke, Cheyenne, and Rifleman—and cheering on football games during the weekends. Carrie was known for her warm heart, nurturing spirit, stylish suits, and lively dance moves.
Today, we honor and celebrate Carrie, remembering the kindness, love, and joy she brought to all who were blessed to know her. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts.
