Millie was born in 1938 in Belen, New Mexico to Ralph and Leonor Jaramillo. She moved with her family to Barstow, Ca. when she was 13 years old. She attended John F. Kennedy High School, graduating with the Riffian Class of 1956. Millie's last place of work was Rimrock Villa Convalescent Hospital, where she was employed as a cook for 5 years. She was also a homemaker aka jack of all trades as she liked to call it. She could create a repair for just about anything! She also babysat for various families and her grandchildren. However, Millie's most famous occupation was making tortillas in her kitchen which everyone loved! Her other well-known profession was working as a waitress for the Harvey House for 10 years, as part of the Santa Fe Railway from which she retired.
Harvey House waitresses were commonly referred to as The Harvey Girls. Millie met the love of her life Louie there, as he was a frequent customer. Louie would hop on the train from Seligman, Az. to Barstow, Ca. looking for work with the Santa Fe Railroad. Millie's best friend and co-worker Tina, said she knew a guy that Millie would like in which Millie replied, Oh no Tina! However, Millie did take notice of Louie's handsome looks and studly bomber jacket. Louie noticed her too and would usually lose courage to ask her out and would order a hamburger instead! Finally, one day, Louie made up his mind and skipped the usual on the menu and "ordered" a date with Millie this time! She agreed! However, she had a rule; no holding hands! Louie thought it strange, but he complied. Good move Louie!
After their date, Millie surprisingly asked Louie, "Did you say you wanted to marry me?" Louie, at first speechless, couldn't believe what he was hearing, but scored a touch down and said YES to the unexpected but exciting wedding proposal!
Millie's favorite past time with her husband Louie was dancing, especially the Jitter Bug. Millie also loved singing music from the 50s, Boleros, her prayer meeting songs, going to church, enjoying walks, visiting family and friends, laughing about funny sayings and her commercials, reading her bible with her husband and daughter, going to Denny's and playing the tambourine in church alongside her husband with his drums.
Millie doted on how proud she was of her husband and 6 kids with the last of them being twins and also her grandchildren. She loved all her family very much including her parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and has the thousands of pictures to prove it! She also loved her town of Barstow and her neighbors and friends. Millie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Martha's Meals Ministry and Calvary Chapel Church of Barstow. Millie was a true woman of God; a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, friend, sister, cousin, niece, neighbor and co-worker. She carried a beautiful light and brought joy to her family and all who knew her with her pleasant personality and generous spirit.
