Today our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of Tyler Mellissa Simpson(42) of Victoria, Texas. Tyler was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and true friend. Her bright light and big heart left us all too soon.
Tyler was born March 12, 1981 in Decatur, Alabama to Tom and Lynn Meador. Soon after her birth, the family moved to Victoria. Tyler attended Stanley Elementary School, Howell Middle School, and she was a cheerleader and Victoriadore at Victoria High School, Class of 1999.
Tyler was a true and faithful friend. Her closest friends referred to themselves as the "Tribe." Members of the "Tribe" include Tenille Shafer Adamcik, Cari Collett Hawn, Liz Lasater Murray, Amanda Lott Rogers, Carly Dunnam Uson, and Sara Quitta (deceased). The girls met as early as preschool at Northside Baptist Church Day School and were friends all through grade school and beyond. The "Tribe" shared many adventures, much laughter, and generous love with one another. The friends describe Tyler as a fiercely loyal and giving friend. The girls gathered by her bedside days before her passing for one more girl's night out.
Tyler was a dedicated daughter and sister. Tyler deeply loved her parents and included them on many family trips and fretted over their care. She was an incredible sister to her brother, Tim, and sister, Tiffany. The two siblings recall how Tyler brought light, energy, love, and fun in their times together.
Tyler gave birth to Olivia Nicole Meador, in her early twenties. Tyler wanted the best for Olivia and knew at the time that she could not provide the life that she wanted for her daughter. Tyler made the painstaking decision to have Olivia adopted by Scott and Cindy Meador. As a mother, Tyler made the ultimate sacrifice for her daughter. Tyler did maintain a relationship with Olivia throughout her years.
Tyler married Calvin Simpson March 17, 2007. They celebrated 16 years of marriage. Calvin fondly recalls all the good memories they made on weekend get-aways, attending concerts, and outside listening to music by the pool. Tyler's greatest accomplishment and her pride and joy were her daughters Sydney and Peyton. She was an incredibly devoted and loyal mother and went to great lengths showing them much love, joy, and care. Prior to her strokes, April 21,2020, Tyler served as homeroom mom, play date coordinator, and cheerleader at all of their games. After her strokes, she had limitations, but she frequently shared with her sister how proud she was of her girls.
Tyler's gift was hospitality. It brought Tyler much joy to plan and host family gatherings, and she was an outstanding host. Family members smile as they recall that Tyler would serve enough food for an army at gatherings. There was one gathering that had an infamous lasagna contest, and Tyler, who claimed she couldn't cook, won and proudly held bragging rights. It was later rumored that her lasagna may have been just a doctored Stouffer's lasagna. Tyler's laughter, servant's heart, and love for family will be her lasting legacy.
The family would like to recognize Patsy Diaz, Tyler’s caregiver. Patsy showed Tyler much kindness, love, and care. Tyler often referred to Patsy as her second mom.
Tyler's life was cut tragically short. Her joy and love will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband Calvin Simpson of Victoria, daughters: Olivia Nicole Meador of Lubbock, Texas, Sydney Lynn Simpson, and Peyton Elizabeth Simpson of Victoria, Texas, Father: Tom Meador of Victoria, Texas, Sister: Tiffany M. (Todd) Jaksch of Round Rock, Brother: Timothy M. (Natalie) Meador of Victoria, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Tyler was greeted in heaven by her mother Helen Lynn Meador.
