Thomas Pierce Followwill was born May 14, 1996, in Victoria, Texas. He left us on August 16, doing what he loved, waist deep in the water chasing trout and red fish at sunset in Port O'Connor, Texas. He is survived by his parents Dr. Jerry and Mrs. Kim Followwill, brother Sam and wife Fancy, and his grandmother Jeanette Followwill. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Pete Followwill and maternal grandparents Katherine and Ed Dorroh.
While only 22, Tom packed lots of living in those short precious years. Passionate about traveling, Tom and his family ventured on hiking, skiing, and sight-seeing explorations to Spain, Greece, Alaska, Peru, Argentina, Australia, Mexico, Hawaii, New Zealand, France, and much of the United States---the Followwill Four never met a mountain they couldn’t climb, a sea they couldn’t fish, or a country they couldn’t traverse.
Tom's true joy in life was all things outdoors. He loved hunting with a rifle, bow and shotgun; fishing; hiking; tearing up the mountain on his snowboard; shooting competitively; accepting any challenge that nature offered, allowing him to commune with the great outdoors. Dedicated to fitness and clean living, Tom’s weekly routine included meal prep and daily trips to the gym, setting performance goals for himself and pushing himself to be the best. Part of who he was, true grit and perseverance drove Tom to succeed in all he endeavored.
Spending family time was important to him, and no event concluded without Tom posting family pictures of his parents, his brother and his sister-in-law. His very best friend in this world was his big brother Sam. Marvin, his canine buddy provided companionship and joy.
A Fighting Texas Aggie, Tom loved his university and his Delta Tau Delta fraternity brothers. Tom was to graduate from Texas A & M University in May 2019 with a major in Construction Science and a minor in Business. Always pushing himself academically, Tom was a member of the National Junior Honor Society in middle school and National Honor Society in high school. He graduated with honors from St. Joseph High School in 2014.
From an early age Tom was a fierce competitor on the soccer field, playing select and high school soccer all across Texas. Tom received the honor of most valuable player numerous times and once held the district record for most goals scored. Other athletic activities included running track and playing freshman football at St. Joseph. An avid believer in giving back to his community and being a good steward of the earth, Tom and his family participated in many community service activities, ranging from building houses for Habitat for Humanity to serving food to the community. Tom was a member of the Boy Scout Troop 363 and was a 2013 delegate to the National Junior Leadership Convention in Washington, DC.
Friends are cordially invited to a celebration of his life with the family on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at Rosewood Funeral Home. A service of Christian burial will be held at Parkway Church Victoria, Wednesday, August 22, at 2 pm. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Grounded in his Christian faith Tom lived his life with excellence, passion, integrity and drive. If Tom was your son, brother or your friend, he always had your back and encouraged others to always do the right thing and strive to be the best version of themselves. With a keen, dry sense of humor, Tom could have everyone in stitches while he held a straight face with intense brown eyes and a cocked-up eyebrow. Tom could often be heard assuring family and friends, “I’ve got this!” Tom lived his life with two mottos: “Chase success without fear of failure. “Wings out; Time to Fly”.
