Ronald George Sumbera, 81, of Victoria passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. He was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on April 29, 1943 to George and Leona Sumbera. He married his wife of 43 years, Dienne Landry, on October 28, 1972 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cuero, TX.
Ronald worked with his father on the family farm for much of his life. In addition, as a young man he went to electronics school and became a gifted electronics repairman. His most recent electronics based job was installing security systems for Triangle Electronics in Houston. Before retirement he worked for the Diocese of Victoria Spiritual Renewal Center. Ron was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was active in the Church Choir and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his daughter, Marie Immenhauser (Brandon); son, George B. Sumbera; sisters, Marilyn Franz and Lois Sumbera; and three grandchildren, Willie, Alec, and Hannah Immenhauser.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dienne Sumbera, and his parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Shillerville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Immenhauser, Brent Willie Immenhauser, Alec Immenhauser, Clinton Franz, Clayton Franz, and Lucian B. Landry.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nazareth Convent Restoration Fund, c/o St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
To all those who cared for Ronnie and helped him, especially in the last few months, we are grateful to God for each and every one of you; you blessed his and our lives.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion, UTHealth Neurosciences Medical Center, DCH Oncology Clinic, DeTar Cancer Center, Accent Home Health, and the local hospitals, doctor offices and facilities. Heartfelt thanks to the precious private home caregivers who showed him great love; you know who you are. Love to our St. Mary’s family who have stood steadily with us. Finally, thank you to all the family, neighbors and friends who have given us unabashed love, prayers, nourishment, and support.
