Perry Wayne Pierce passed away surrounded by his loving family on September 26, 2017. Perry was born April 17, 1937 in Snyder, Texas to the late Clois Vernon Pierce and Ellen Goolsby Pierce. Perry married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Pierce on June 25, 1955. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, his son, John David Pierce of Magnolia, Texas, his daughters Debbie Chappell and Connie Vivian (Danny), of Victoria, Texas; brother Kenneth Pierce (Ann) of College Station, Texas, and sister Yvonne Gormerly (Bill) of Schenectady, New York; grandchildren Miranda Lind, Casey Field (A.J.), Travis Vivian (Taylor), Camille Blanco (Jake), and Sean Pierce; great grandchildren Alexandria “Allie” Ortiz, James Ortiz, Noah Grant, Audrey Field, Kyeler Field, Mason Field, and Shirley Ann Field.
Perry graduated from Texas A&M University in 1959, where he earned his B.S. Degree in Physical Education, and subsequently received a Master’s Degree in Education. His career began in 1960 as a coach and teacher at Nolan Jr. High in Sweetwater, Texas. He continued his career as a teacher and a coach in Killeen Texas and Corpus Christi, Texas. From 1969-1977 he worked as a principal and administrator in Del Valle, Texas. In 1977 he worked as a Principal for Austwell-Tivoli ISD, and later retired as an administrator from Tidehaven ISD in Blessing, Texas.
Perry and Shirley were best friends and partners for life, and loved spending time with their family enjoying traveling, fishing, hunting, and camping. Perry considered himself an important member of the town council of Chigger Bottom, Texas, which he considered his second home. Perry was the foundation of his family, and passed his Christian faith on to his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and anyone who passed through his front door. He was a hard worker, and encouraged and motivated others. He always had a project and most of them took twice as long as they should have. Besides his love for the outdoors, he loved watching Aggie football, old westerns, and the RFD-TV channel. His favorite music was anything by Patsy Cline and the Aggie War Hymn. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, mentor and friend.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 3-5 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, 3304 Mockingbird Lane.
