Everett Asa Gauntt Jr.

Everett Asa Gauntt, Jr. 83, of Victoria, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Everett was born December 5, 1927, in Midland, Texas, to the late Everett Gauntt, Sr. and Nellie Grice Gauntt, and was raised in Bossier City, Louisiana, moving to Victoria in 1954.

Everett enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving in the US Pacific Theater. He was employed with the McCullough Tool Company for 10 years before working 36 years and retiring with Union Carbide, in 1994.

Everett was an avid golfer and enjoyed many friendships on the golf course. He volunteered his time for many non-profit organizations. Serving as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 369, he took his troops to numerous camps including two trips to Philmont. He enjoyed being a HAM radio operator and even to the end could tell you a good story, even those that occurred decades ago.

Everett was a long time member of Baptist Temple Church.

Everett was a completely selfless and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Hazel Smith Gauntt; sister, Barbara Denmon; daughter, Kathy Cannon and husband, Michael; sons, Ron and wife, Anna, and Jonathan and wife, Larissa; and eight grandchildren, who all will miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Elaine Gauntt.

Visitation will be Friday, August 12, 2011, from 5-7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, 3304 Mockingbird Lane, Victoria, Texas.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday 9:00 AM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Rev. David Hudson officiating. Interment with flag folding and taps under the direction of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow at Memory Gardens, 8819 US Highway 87 North, Victoria.

Pallbearers are D.L. "Buck" Buchanan, Daryl Gilbreath, Otis Linam, Ray Pilsner, Art Roe and Bobby Walton.

Honorary pallbearers are Roger Dawson, Frank Northcutt, Milton Wingfield, Ken Woodall, Ted Nelson and all employees and former employees of Union Carbide Systems.
