Evelyn ‘Merle’ Patterson Sparks of Victoria, Texas, passed away the 30th of August 2024 at the age of 87. Merle was born on January 21, 1937 in Port Lavaca, Texas and raised in Aransas Pass, Texas. She graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1955. Merle married Oscar H. Sparks on August 25, 1956 and together raised their 3 children. She and Oscar lived in Corpus Christi, Harlingen, Moses Lake, WA, Butte, MT, and retired in Victoria, TX.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and a wonderful homemaker. Merle was known for her friendly, caring and compassionate disposition. She loved spending time with her friends, family and community at Northside Baptist but most of all, she loved Jesus Christ. She held tight to His many promises.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Oscar H. Sparks, her daughter Janet L. Davis, her parents Alice and Virgil Patterson, her siblings Jimmy Patterson, Ray Patterson, and Ruth Donelson and a daughter-in-law Tamara Kiser Sparks.
Merle is survived by her son David Sparks, daughter Karen Wilburn (Earl), grandchildren Blake Sparks, Jordan Wolf, Lindsey Zotz (Clay), Catherine Rockett (Russell), Heather Herber (Cameron), Zackary Wilburn and Laura Wilburn. As well as four great grandchildren, Truitt, Corbin and Archer Zotz, and Ezra Rockett and a brother Jerry Patterson and wife Cherrill
A celebration of Merle’s life will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday the 6th of September at Northside Baptist Church Small Chapel with Pastor Tom Hughey officiating. Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private graveside service.
