David L. Maxey

David L. “Dave” Maxey, 85, of Victoria passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017. He was born June 22, 1932 in Cuero, TX to David R. and Bonnie Lou Prewett Maxey. Dave proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. After 31 years at DuPont, Dave retired as a production foreman He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was an active member, teaching Bible studies for over 50 years and singing in the choir. Dave loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer and loved camping.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Denise Edgar of Cuero, Tracy Lee (Adrian) Funari of Victoria; son, David Ray (Donna) Maxey of Victoria; sister, Barbara (Harry) Hill of Victoria; brothers, Mickey (Altha) Maxey of Victoria, Robert (Barbara) Maxey of Shiner; grandchildren, Sarah (Kyle), D. J., Gwen (Sonny), Jessica (Hank), Meghan (Matt), Madison Funari and Caraline Funari and numerous great grandchildren.

“The children want to express their sincere gratitude and love to Ruby Ford who helped take care of Dave. The two cousins were always there to help each other when needed, always kept each other company and were only a phone call away.”

In addition to his parents, Dave is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Rae Maxey in 2013.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 from 4-6 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. Funeral Services will be 10 AM on Monday, November 27, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 301 N. Glass with Rev. James Shamburger officiating. Interment with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will take place in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearer are Matt Rush, Adrian Funari, Hank Woods, D. J. Maxey, Buddy Edgar and Mark Kirkpatrick.

Dave’s granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 301 N. Glass, Victoria, TX 77901, American Cancer Society, 4401 Lilac, Victoria, TX 77901 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
