One of the most caring, funny and genuine men, Alfred Quiroz Ortiz, Sr., 92, of Victoria, passed from this world to the next on August 15, 2012. He was born September 27, 1919, in Palacios, Texas, to the late Catarino and Refugia Ortiz. He served in the United States Army during WWII and worked for the Naval Air Station in Civil Service.
“Captain”, as he was affectionately called, is survived by his daughters, Lina Ortiz Anderson and husband, Mark, of Laguna Niguel, California, and Christina Ortiz Campos of Pearland; sons, Daniel F. Ortiz and wife, Athena, of Sugarland, and Rene’ Ortiz of Corpus Christi; brother, Frank Ortiz; and sister, Zoila Rincon. Mr. Ortiz is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Christina and Alexander Ortiz, Micaela, Jadon, Gage, Zaccai and Carissa Campos and 1 great grandchild, Corbin Killough.
Mr. Ortiz was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Minerva Fernandez Ortiz, a son, Alfred Ortiz, Jr. and his parents.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, August 19, 2012, from 4-6 pm with a Rosary to be recited at 6 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. A visitation will begin at 9:30 am Monday, August 20, 2012, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral. Entombment will be held at 3:30 pm Monday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
