Born in Toronto to Bill and Madeline Barrie. Survived by his children from his first marriage to Ruby: Jason (Laurie), Erroll (Terry), Gil (Monica), Gloria (Mike Hollin). 5 grandchildren. Also survived by Valerie’s children: Valerie Kelly, Marilyn (Andy Genth), Brenda (Gord Macdougal), David Kelly (Lawana Titiryn). 8 grandchildren. Roger left Toronto to join the RCMP in 1955. After training he returned to Toronto and worked in construction until joining the Township of Toronto Police in1961. In 1968 he moved to Victoria and was with Victoria Police until his retirement in 1997. He was very active in many organizations such as the RCMP Vets Association, singing with the Greater Victoria Police Chorus for 29 years, 35 years with the International Police Association, a 30 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the YM/YWCA where he volunteered for over 20 years. He was also a past member of the Evening Optimist Club of Victoria serving on the executive several times. Roger loved his old cars and was actively involved in 5 car clubs. He was a charter member of the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria, a founding member of the Cadillac LaSalle Club of Canada, a 20 year member of the Old English Car Club, the Victoria MG Club and the Island Vintage T-Bird Club. Roger was also a long time member of the Wescan Good Sam Camping Club. Special thanks to Lloyd and Sheilagh Hanna from the camping club for performing CPR and saving Roger’s life after a cardiac arrest in 2009. He had 9 more good years after this incident. Roger enjoyed his single malt whisky and was a member of the Companions of the Quaich Westshore Chapter. A celebration of life will be held later. In lieu of flowers donations to the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation or Victoria Hospice would be appreciated.
