The last few years were challenging for Norma, but she dealt with a myriad of health problems like she did everything else in life… head on with no complaints. A beautiful, happy and caring individual, Norma brought joy and laughter to those who knew her. We looked forward to celebrating her 91st birthday on December 24.
Norma was born in the North of England, married Gerald in 1955, and emigrated to Canada in 1957 working their way west from Saskatoon to Victoria. Norma often remarked how she loved island life, whether it be England, Pender or Vancouver Island.
Norma was a mom who worked full-time. She was a physio for the Cerebral Palsy Clinic then the GR Perks Clinic; later she became Head of Physiotherapy at the Royal Jubilee Hospital before going into private practice.
Mum’s true passion was gardening. Happiness was digging in the dirt with Willy the Schnauzer at her side. She was an adventurous globetrotter and travelled the world extensively with Dad. She enjoyed cultures and cuisine and was herself a magnificent cook. Over her lifetime, Mum served in many volunteer capacities including Head of the Victoria Horticultural Society (overseeing “In a Victoria Garden” 1994), hosting many open gardens at her home, and dedicating more than ten years to the Fairfield Thrifty’s Sendial Program.
Our sincere gratitude to the Victoria General Hospital, Neurosciences & Rehabilitation medical staff and S4 nurses for their exceptional care.
To honour Norma’s request, there will be no service; in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Diabetes Canada in her name.
