Matthew Ross Robinson

Matthew was born in Toronto, Ontario. He is survived by his closest friend Sarah, Linda E. Robinson his mother, as well by Dennis Robinson his father and stepmother Lillian. He is dearly loved by his siblings: Christine (Sharon Rankin), Ste, Katherine, and Darren. Matthew’s nephews and niece will greatly miss their uncle: Robbie, Lucas, Andrew, and Kloe. He is cherished by Kiri and Eric.

Today is an opportunity to celebrate Matthew, who will be remembered for enriching our lives.

On November 6, 1973, Matthew entered the world not very long after his sister, and the bonds between them were eternal. His brother Ste was next in 1976, and their relationship was strong. His younger sister was born in 1978. The pranks, the teasing, and the practical support made life skills possible. When Matthew was seven years old his parents divorced and he was raised by his mother. Since the children were close they developed into thoughtful and caring people.

Matthew enjoyed going to summer camps: Quebec Lodge, Camp d’action biblique first as camper, then a counselor, and eventually a leader. He participated in many church activities, enjoying the fellowship with many different people. The Rev. Martin Sadler became his mentor, and they enjoyed a strong friendship.

Matthew thrived living in Montreal. He was very sensitive to issues of social justice and he always put others ahead of himself.

In Montreal he followed his passion for history at Concordia University. It was there that he met Sarah and the two of them became the very best of friends. He remained committed to her, instinctively knowing they would give support to one another.

Matthew was a cat-lover. He had Danu, Mibu, and he had Winston who was two when Matthew passed.

Matthew arrived in Victoria from Montreal in 2008. He loved Victoria and made many connections in his new community. He completed a Teacher’s Degree.

Matt joined the Liquor Distribution Branch in 2011. Beginning as a store clerk he soon joined the BCGEU union and had many wonderful moments. He completed LDB course work to earn himself a supervisory role.

Matthew fought long against his Crohn’s disease, a disease marked by surgeries and painful periods.

Matthew will be deeply loved, cherished, and missed.
