It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Peacock, our beautiful mom, wife, grandma, and great-grandma. Marie was born in February 1934 in Pelly Saskatchewan. She moved with her family to Vancouver in 1949. Marie met Sidney Peacock in April 1953 and they were married in August 1954.
Marie had many interesting careers. She worked as a top secret cryptographer with the National Defense, tracing aircraft positions with the Department of Transport, and finally with the Department of Corrections. She started as a corrections officer, then was promoted to staff training officer, and then was appointed as the Director of Oakalla Women's Correctional Centre. She finished her career as a child custody and access investigator. She retired in 1997.
In retirement, Sid and Marie decided to relocate to Galiano Island where they owned vacation property for many years. They met many new friends and participated in many activities with the Lion's Club. Sid and Marie loved Dixieland Jazz and attended many jazz festivals throughout Canada and the US during their retirement. They both loved to dance.
Marie will forever be remembered for the extraordinary impact she had on our lives as someone who lived her life with love, poise, and unwavering strength through every adversity she ever faced. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. The Galiano home would be packed with children and grandchildren, noisy, messy and full of love. Throughout it all, mom would be smiling and happy. She loved her family above all else. She was sharp-witted, enjoyed a good joke, and loved to share a glass of wine with friends and family.
We are eternally grateful for the time we shared with her.
She leaves to mourn, her husband of 66 years, Sid Peacock, daughters Linda, Carol (Tom), Cydney (Brian), and son Matt (Chrissy), grandchildren Luke, Andrew, Chelsea, Jessica, Brandon, and Cara, and great-grandchildren Nora and Benson.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date when COVID restrictions allow. Donations to the Galiano Health Care Society in Marie’s memory would be appreciated.
