Louis passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 3, 2019. He spent his childhood in Java, Indonesia which used to be referred to as the Dutch East Indies. After moving back to the Netherlands, he pursued an education in mechanical engineering, resulting in a career working for multiple international companies. The Dutch company sent him to Montreal, where he and his newly wed wife Zetty raised their two children in Quebec. Joanne, his daughter, now lives outside Atlanta with her husband Steven, and son Alex; her daughter Meghan lives in Victoria. Harold, his son lives outside of Calgary with his wife Lori and their two sons David and Kegan.
Louis, after a short company transfer to Ontario and another company move to Vancouver, B.C. resided in the suburbs where he has spent the majority of the last 25 years. In 2002 his vision started decreasing, leading eventually to him and his wife moving to Victoria in 2017 to live closer to their granddaughter. In wanting to be closer to amenities and closer to the water, he moved to Amica Somerset House in September 2019 with his wonderful wife.
Louis is predeceased by his two siblings, sister Rose and brother Anthony. The accompanying photo is the view from his childhood home of Mount Merapi in Java, Indonesia.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the CNIB in memory of Louis would be gratefully appreciated citing Zetty's email address: [email protected]
