19, 2018 in Victoria. Born April 26, 1931 in North Battleford, Sask.
Greta was the youngest of 11 children of Harold and Sarah (Boston) Dye. The family came to live on Old West Saanich Road when Greta was 3 yrs old. and it was a life of many chores, favourite farm animals and happy memories.
Greta was predeceased by (second) husband Jack Harness and by all of her 10 siblings but
will be dearly missed by her 4 children, 2 stepchildren, 10 grandchildren, 10 great
grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. Children Chris (Dave) Morman, Lance (Kathy)
Vaesen, Lynn (Ron) Zeleschuk, Paul (Wendy) Vaesen; stepchildren Linda (Bruce) McFarlane,
Alan (Brenda Viney) Harness.
As a young, busy mother Greta still made time for bowling, gardening, camping and finding any
occasion for dressing up in crazy costumes - you name it, Mom could make a costume for it.
She loved to have fun. Greta had a lifelong love of singing whether in the kitchen or in a choir.
Greta met husband Jack Harness in her work at his long established Oak Bay Hardware and
they married in 1972 spending many happy, busy years together as proprietors of the store.
Both were integral members of the Oak Bay Business Association and were very involved with
Tea Party activities. With the Canadian Hardware Association Mom and Jack took many
wonderful trips. To find some relaxed time away from the business they moved to an oceanside
home in North Saanich and took more time out for gardening and golf. After retiring and
moving into Sidney life revolved around bridge, lawn bowling and golf. Mom remained in
Sidney until two years ago when she started enjoying the good life at Sunrise Senior home in
Victoria.
A church service and gathering will be held on April 21, 2018 at 2pm at St. Andrews Anglican
Church, 9691 Fourth Street, Sidney, BC. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the
Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
Sincere thanks to Mom’s dedicated caregivers at Sunrise and to the caring staff at Royal
Jubilee Hospital.
