Lib was born November 24, 1938 in Montreal, the much loved daughter of J. Alex Edmison and Alice Vercoe Edmison. Lib was the beloved sister of the late Joan (the late Stan Trzop) and Nancy (David Lefebure) of North Saanich BC. Dear aunt of Laurie, Nancy, Wendy and Sarah, John and Michael and their families. Missed by close Victoria friends Darlene Haynes, Jill McLean and Mary Turner.
Lib was a proud graduate of Sydenham School, K.C.V.I. and Queen’s University (B.A.) in Kingston ON, and the University of Toronto (MSW). As well as being a top academic, Lib had the distinction of being a ‘baseball scholar’ and her love of this sport and her vast knowledge of its history lasted all her life. As a young teenager, she had a five-minute weekly radio show called ‘A Girl Reviews Baseball’ which led to further radio programmes related to her career in social work. Lib’s years as a social worker were spent in Toronto, Kingston and Windsor.
After retirement in 1993, Lib followed some of her family west to BC. She loved her years at The Wellesley in Victoria, was very active in running Wellesley events, and used a scooter on jaunts around town. Lib eventually moved to Salt Spring Island to be near Nan and Dave and their ‘four-footers’, and enjoyed her time in Braehaven Assisted Living facility. Over the years, Lib faced her mobility challenges with patience and good humour and she found great comfort in her Christian faith.
Lib’s kindness, intelligence, generosity and love of books, the news, classic movies, sports and friendship will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed, especially by her sister Nan, who loved evening phone calls with Lib, during which they often revisited favourite family memories.
The family would like to thank Lady Minto Hospital on Salt Spring Island and Saanich Peninsula Hospital ECU1 in Victoria for their excellent, compassionate care of Lib over the last two years. Lib’s last days were a testament to the power of family love.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research would be appreciated by the family. Loved ones will attend a graveside service next summer at the Edmison family plot at Little Lake Cemetery in Peterborough ON.
“Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.“ - 23rd Psalm.
