On October 21, 2024, Cassie (Chornoby) Veysey got her wings and went to walk with the angels. Up until the end Cassie maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, appreciation of beauty, love of family and friends and was grateful for the gift of her long life. Cassie’s life was full of family, friends, music and fun. In her almost 92 years here she had an abundance of each.
Cassie spent her early years in Manitoba living with her mother Annie and brother Orest until her move to Calgary where she met her first husband Douglas Burns, the person whom she would build a family with. They were married in 1954 and were stationed in Germany where she had her first son Richard, they were then stationed in Calgary where she had her second son David. 10 years later they were stationed in Victoria BC where she had her third child, a daughter Kathryn. They remained in Victoria and raised their family. Cassie was a devoted wife and mother, she took pride in her home, garden, her family and friends. She took a job in the Canteen of the Jr. Ranks Mess, Queens Own Rifles base in Esquimalt BC where she worked for over 20 years always offering a listening ear friendship and kindness and making many friends along the way. Cassie met her second husband Barry in Victoria BC; they remained friends till the end. The family will be eternally grateful to Barry who was not only a loving husband but a dedicated caregiver in her final years. He provided comfort, love and complete care, making her final days comfortable.
She loved to dance and was an avid member of People Meeting People, she loved to sing and dance and would do so on a whim encouraging everyone around her to join in. She loved to golf, work out at the gym and would walk for miles loving every step. She adored her Grandchildren Matthew, Andrew, Alex, Brett, Haley and Drake with all her heart and was up for any adventures and just happy to be included in their lives. She loved to read romance novels, she was romantic at heart and loved with abandon, never afraid to show how much she loved us. She beat breast cancer and that gave her a new lease on life and started her journey with organic foods, natural healing and supplements.
Cassie is predeceased by her first husband Douglas and her brother Orest Chornoby. Survived by her two sons and their partners Richard Burns and Hilda, David Burns and Katharine, her daughter and husband Kathryn and Jamie Coutts, her brother William Joyce and her second husband Barry Veysey, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
