Predeceased by parents Lawrence and Helen Simpson. Survived by wife Linda; children Scott (Desirée) and Kevin (Emma); brother Larry (Rhea), as well as grandchildren Dylan and Shelby and step-grandchildren Jaymen, Rayna, Catie, and Olivia, and a collection of close friends.
Brian was born in Vancouver, BC, and graduated from Gladstone Secondary School in Vancouver. He soon met Linda McLean and the two were married in Surrey on September 16, 1967. Brian’s professional career included 15 years in office management for London Life followed by 26 years at Worksafe BC, largely as a claim adjudicator and the last couple of years as an adjudicator trainer/mentor.
His early work career necessitated several relocations, and as a result Brian lived in several cities across Canada including Vancouver, Brittania Beach, Toronto, Brantford, Mississauga, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Prince George, and 45 years in Brentwood Bay and Saanichton, BC, where he and Linda found the perfect locale to raise a family and for day-to-day life.
Brian was an avid sports participant including hockey, squash, fishing and boating, and golf; he was nature walking and lawn bowling well into his 70s. He was a travel enthusiast, and following his work retirement, together with Linda travelled to over 50 countries across nearly every continent (and likely struck up conversations with tens of thousands of people!). Brian gave back to his community through service with the Central Saanich Lions Club and a couple of years as a minor hockey coach. He enjoyed exploring good food, beer, and wine, as well as tasty sweets of all types! Brian was skillful with carpentry and repairs – an all-around ‘handy man.’
Those who were fortunate to know him know he was kind, easy to laugh, generous and giving, and very much enjoyed being an active and engaged grandparent. He struck up conversations easily, and enjoyed meeting new people locally and abroad.
No funeral services will be held, and in lieu of flowers, the family offers that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.
