Brian was born in Toronto, Ontario to Brian and Mary (Procter). He grew up with his older brother Michael in southern Ontario and British Columbia. After attending Victoria College and UBC, he received a teaching degree and taught school in Dawson Creek and Victoria in the early 1960s. He later pursued a degree in dentistry at the University of Toronto and established two successful dental offices in Victoria practicing dentistry for over 40 years.
In 1969, Brian married his “sweetie-pie” Sara (Hughes) in Victoria, and together they raised two children Gethyn and Barbara (McElroy). A leader with Scouts Canada for over 65 years, “Scouter B” enriched the lives of youth by providing them with opportunities to travel, camp, hike, and build life skills.
He also served with the Friends of Mengo Hospital Canada, spearheading the construction of a new dental clinic and supported such programs for those affected by HIV/AIDS. Brian had a passion for world traveling with his wife and enjoyed many winter ski memories at Mt Washington and summer fun times at the Rock and Cameron Lake.
Brian is survived by Sara, his loving wife of 55 years, daughter Barbara (Glen), and grandchildren Ronan and Selena and predeceased by his son Gethyn. On Nov 2nd, 2024, a funeral service will be held at St. Michael & All Angels Church in Victoria at 1:00pm followed by a Celebration of Life at the Sanctuary Wood Farm 5181 Santa Clara Ave. at 2:30pm where many adventures and funny stories will be shared around the campfire (come with a story and printed copy for a memory book).
Brian lived life to the fullest with no time wasted. His motto, “Nothing Ventured, Nothing gained”, provided a compass that guided his bold choices to the end of his days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
