It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Ralph Robert Cox on August 30, 2022. Ralph was born December 6, 1947 in Fairview, Alberta. He was predeceased by his parents, Stan and Constance Cox, and by his first wife Joan Cox (nee Foote). He is survived by his wife Vivien and her family; his sister Sylvia Kennett (Chris); his brother, Barry Cox (Lorna); nieces Christa and Holly, and nephews Patrick, Bruce and Neil. Ralph was a caring son, brother, uncle, husband, granddad and friend.
His family moved from Fairview to Lumby, BC where they bought and worked a dairy farm on Whitevale Road. Ralph was a large presence in the communities of Lumby and Cherryville. As Lead Hand and school bus driver, he supervised drivers and their routes for School District #22 for many years. He cared deeply for the multiple generations of students that he drove to and from their homes and schools.
Driving was a passion for Ralph. During school holidays he would travel in his RV on adventures to family in Ontario and all over the U.S.A. On his retirement, he realized his dream: a meandering trip across Canada and back through the U.S.A. visiting relatives and friends in his brand-new motorhome. He became a Snowbird spending the winters in Yuma, Arizona.
Ralph had a remarkable memory especially for dates, names and family connections. He could remember birthdays of people he had met years ago and would phone to wish them well. A truly thoughtful and generous man.
Ralph was larger than life in size and in spirit. He loved to tease and have fun and his hugs were huge and heartfelt. People were naturally drawn to him wherever he was as he exuded an aura of confidence and safety.
In memory, there will be a graveside gathering for family only. Donations in Ralph’s name can be made to the Vernon Salvation Army.
