It is with heavy hearts we lovingly say goodbye to our dear mom Jan to join her late husband Jim who predeceased her in 2007. Mom kept her positive outlook and warm personality right until the end when she passed peacefully at Vernon Jubilee Hospital December 4, 2024.
Born August 23, 1952, in Big River, SK, the 6th of 12 children, mom spent her childhood and school days on a farm in Wilkie, SK. After completing nursing school, she accepted her first job in Dauphin, MB where she met and married the love of her life James Edward Brown. They moved to Vernon in 1979 where they would spend the rest of their lives working, playing, and raising their family. Mom’s career was as a registered nurse, spending over 35 years on the maternity ward at VJH where she expertly and passionately cared for newborns and mothers. She will be remembered as a caring, kind person with a big heart and great sense of humour. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and getting outside gardening or golfing.
She will be missed by many friends and extended family including her siblings Peg, Joyce, John, Andy, Allan, Mike, Joe and Dale, in- laws, and many nieces and nephews. Her memory will be cherished by her children, Erin (Peter), Allison (Guy), Kendrick (Terri), and Daniel (Angela); grandchildren, Kyle, Emily, Peter, Arthur, Nathan, Megan, Talysa, Talon, and Marlon; and great grandsons, Devin and Jace.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dhaliwal and the staff at VJH for their care.
In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Jan can be made to VJH Foundation or the BC Children's Hospital Foundation as they were charities important to her.
A memorial service will be held at 11am Friday January 3, 2025 at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home.
