David George Stubbs went to meet his Lord and Saviour August 10th 2020.
He was born August 18th, 1934 in Lloydminster Saskatchewan, son of Reginald Trowbridge Stubbs and Capitola Fern Stubbs (Howard) the fifth of eleven children.
The family moved to the Okanagan Valley in 1937 and initially settled in Westbank. They eventually moved to Okanagan Centre though many friends were made in the Kelowna Mission area.
David loved the Okanagan Valley as he thought of it as the best place on earth and that he lived through the best point of time.
David and his soul mate, the love of his life Mabel Stubbs (Siemens) met in Winfield and were married in 1955. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past June, five years after renewing their wedding vows.
David is survived by his beloved wife Mabel and their children. Roxanna O'Connell (Daniel), Wesley David Stubbs (Trudy), Roberta Cullihall (Victor), Jack Stubbs (Lisa) and Traci Kenney (Terrence); predeceased by daughter Heather Le-Ann Stubbs in 1965. David cherished his nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren and his dear friend Terry Denike with his whole heart.
In his early days David was an avid horseman where he would hire out his expertise in breaking wild horses in the Caribou. He logged with his team of horses Babe and Nellie. Whether hauling fruit for the Winoka Packinghouse, building roads and airports throughout BC or logging, David was a hard working family man doing what he needed to do to achieve his dream of owning a Ranch.
In 1965 David bought land (same day his youngest daughter Traci was born) along the Shuswap River overlooking the Monashee Mountains where he would settle and live out his dream as a Rancher; he now had his "little piece of Heaven".
As a true cowboy, David loved his livestock, to hunt and fish and a good ol' country song. He could play his guitar and sing and yodel like the best of them.
He was an avid reader and was always up for a conversation on current affairs or anything anyone could offer. David loved a good visit and had amazing stories to tell the generations. Despite everything, his true pride and joy was his wife Mabel and family.
David had big respect for the outdoors and great understanding of each season. He was truly one of a kind and greeted each day with intense integrity. He was a kind and honorable man of great Faith.
The strength he instilled in his family will comfort and support them through these most difficult times. He will be so dearly missed by the many lives he touched.
