Andrew was born in Budapest, Hungary, on July 17, 1925. He moved to Germany in 1944 and met Anne. They married on January 20, 1949 and immigrated to Canada in 1951, and settled in Lumby. Andy was well-known for his excellent lumber-grading skills. He worked for Lumby Timber and then Crown Zellerbach for 32 years, retiring as Quality Control Manager in 1982.
Andy was a devoted member of St. James’ Roman Catholic Church in Vernon and was a proud and faithful member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4949. His strong faith and his family meant everything to him.
Andy is predeceased by his son Alfred in 1977 and brother Marton in 1986. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 64 years, Anne; son Charles (Janet) Peti; daughters Karol and Linda (Michael) Bourcet; seven grandchildren: Byron (Kim) Gammel, Christopher (Tasha) Gammel, Leanne (Craig) Street, Nicolas (Erin) Peti, Carmen (Scott) Heit, Eve Peti, and Andrew Bourcet. He is also survived by 6 ½ great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members in Hungary, Germany and New Zealand. He will be greatly missed by all his family and many good friends.
Prayers were recited at St. James’ Church on Wednesday, June 26, and Funeral Mass was celebrated there on Thursday, June 27, at 10:00 A. M., with the Reverend Father Dale Normandeau, celebrant. Interment followed in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
