Susan T. Montgomery, 77, of Ventura died Sunday, February 13, 2011, following a sudden illness. She was born November 2, 1933, in Lackawanna, New York, and had been a resident of Ventura for the past 8 years coming from Culver City.
Susan’s husband, Charles Montgomery, passed away in 1978, leaving Susan to raise their two young boys as well as running their business, Montgomery Oil Company, the next five years.
Later, Susan was employed with the Culver City Unified School District as an Administrative Secretary, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Lions Club in West Hollywood.
Susan was a gracious hostess who loved to entertain in her home and had a gift of making all who entered feel welcome. When she lived in Culver City, you could often find her in the evenings with friends, enjoying the relaxing atmosphere together at Dear John’s Restaurant and Bar. Susan has lived at the Palms in Ventura for the past five years where her gracious spirit was demonstrated whenever one would see her. She enjoyed relaxing at the entry where she would greet everyone coming to the Palms with her bright smile and would usually blow them a kiss.
Susan enjoyed traveling, especially the car trip she took from the West Coast to New York visiting all of our National Parks along the way. Susan was an avid reader and loved to watch classic black and white movies and football, especially her favorite team the Bruins.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Dominka Montgomery of Ventura; son, Clifford Montgomery of Ventura; grandson, Steven Montgomery who is 1 ½ years old, and one on the way, due in July; and sister, Mary Watson who currently resides in Idaho.
Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, February 24th, 12:00 P.M. at Our Lady of the Assumption, 3175 Telegraph Rd., Ventura, with The Reverend Steve Davoren officiating. A reception will follow in The Santa Cruz Room in the Parish Center.
