Norma S. McDaniel passed away with her son, Norm, and daughter, Sherry Stovall, by her side in Camarillo, California, on Monday, July 22, 2013. Born Norma Suzanne Nelson, on July 26, 1921, Norma grew up on the family farm in Beach, North Dakota. Norma glowed whenever she spoke about moving with her mother to glamorous Hollywood. As a young lady she enjoyed a successful career in the radio and television industry working with some very famous names at NBC. It was while she was working in the industry that she met and married Virgil E. McDaniel. Norma’s proudest accomplishment and lasting legacy is her children- Norman, Sherry, and Patrick. Throughout her life, Norma continued to use her gift of music as she was very active in her church community and an avid Bible reader. She displayed a gift of writing and will always be remembered for her thoughtful cards and letters she sent to others. Norma had a free spirit as seen when she moved to Illinois and later Spokane, Washington, before returning to Ventura County about twenty years ago.
Norma will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind including her son, Norm, and his wife Cyndee, her daughter, Sherry, and her husband, Max, her son Patrick, and multiple granddaughters, and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Rosemary Libman and all of the staff at Ashley’s Manor II for their care of Norma in her final days. Memorial services will be held at Los Angeles National Cemetery where Norma will be laid to rest with her husband Virgil, on Thursday, August 8. Her long time friend and pastor, Dave Hall of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ventura, CA will be presiding.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Valley Village (a 501C3 org) , 830 Sherman Way, Winnetka, CA 91306 and/or https://www.givedirect.org/give/givefrm.asp?CID=11419 in Norma’s memory.
