Michael Johnson, 63, of Ojai, Calif. passed away suddenly on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015. Michael was born May 13, 1951, in Los Angeles County and spent the majority of his childhood in the San Fernando Valley. He attended Monroe High School in North Hills, and later Pacific Christian College in Fullerton, Calif., where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Christian theology.
After serving as a youth pastor, Michael joined the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department in 1979 where he proudly served for 27 years, eventually attaining the rank of sergeant.
Some of his favorite hobbies included Civil War reenactments, geneology, traveling and volunteering as a coach for the Nordhoff JV Girls soccer team. This last July he led the AYSO U 16/19 girls’ team to the National Games.
He will be remembered as a generous, kind, loving man, and prominent member of the youth coaching community.
Michael is survived by his younger brother, James; daughter, Hannah Johnson, and his nephew Cale Johnson and family; son, Jehf Jones and his wife Naomi along with granddaughter, Lydia; son, Jerry and his fiancé Kellye, son, Jason and his wife, Michele; he is also survived by his cherished lap-cat, Oreo.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary; and parents, Virginia and Charles Johnson.
Visitation was held at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura, on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 at 5:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. Immediately following the memorial service there will be an urn interment at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura.
