Mary Ellen “Mel” Arnold passed away peacefully with family near her side on July 13, 2010 at the age of 81. She was born a Midwest gal on September 28, 1928 in Muncie, Indiana. Mel grew up to have a weakness for a man in uniform and met her husband Dick Arnold, a marine, at her High School in Richmond Indiana. They married and moved to New Mexico before settling down in Ventura CA where she has resided for the past 57 years. Upon losing her husband after 30 years of marriage Mel worked for the County of Ventura until she retired in 1994. Mel enjoyed spending time with her two sons and grandchildren, traveling, dinner with friends, playing in several bridge clubs, was active in “Friends of the Library”, Library book club, and being a valuable docent to the Ventura County Museum.
Mel survived by her two sons, Michael Arnold of Carmichael Ca, Scott Arnold of Ojai Ca, and grand children Hilare, Gavin, and Kayla Arnold. As well as many close friends and extended family. She is preceded in death by husband Dick Arnold and Brother Bob Maley.
Services will be take place 12:30 P.M., Tuesday July 20, 2010, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura ,with the Reverend Dan Hull officiating. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ventura County “Friends of the Library”, P.O. Box 403, Ventura, CA 93002.
