Marjorie R. Battle passed away peacefully on October 7, 2010 at 89 years young. She was born to Robert Marx Baeny and Flora Alzada (Randall) on August 30, 1921 and was raised in Rhode Island. She had a younger sister, Roberta, who preceded her in death.
Marjorie was a tomboy who hated wearing a dress and loved the summers she spent at Naraganset Bay. After graduation, she attended business school and then married Donald Joseph Battle in 1945. Her children included Robert, married to Renee Davey, Donald Jr. (deceased) and Marie, and her grandchildren, Julianne, Alyda and Mika.
The family moved west to Southern California in 1955 and settled in the San Fernando Valley. Marjorie worked for Safeco Insurance Company from 1967 until her retirement in Seattle in 1982. She was active in her church, enjoyed stamp collecting, played pickelball religiously, participated in the Senior Olympics, volunteered at the senior centers and Washington University and was a world-wide traveler.
In 1992 she returned to Northridge, California and then moved to Ventura in 1994. Marjorie was a loving and nurturing presence in her granddaughter’s lives; walking with them to school, participating in school events, volunteering in the school library and reading to children. She attended St Paul’s Episcopalian Church regularly, swam at the YMCA, took water aerobics and loved flowers and enjoyed puttering in the garden. Marjorie was an avid reader who always had a book nearby. She was a familiar face in the neighborhood
We will miss her sweet smile and positive outlook.
A celebration of her life will be held at the family home on Gale Way on Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 1:00pm-4:00pm. All who knew her are welcome.
Arrangements under the direction of Charles Carroll Funeral Home, Ventura, CA.
